From the Ashes

As a white male growing up in suburban America during the 90s, I have very little to complain about. I have a loving family and had a great childhood. The older I get the more I realize just how fortunate I have been. I try to never lose sight of that. That doesn't mean that I haven't experienced my share of tragedy.

When I was fifteen I was in my room doing homework when my mother came home with my grandparents and told me to pack a bag...she was leaving my father.

It was this moment that I lost the innocence of my childhood. Though it left a dark cloud hanging over my head for years, I found a way to move on. My brother, however, never recovered. After years of struggle with a multitude of personal issues, he decided to end his life.

Music was vital to me during this time. Writing became my cathartic outlet. I pride myself for never falling apart. Music was my therapy. It still is. In my darkest moments music is my light. I want to share that light with others who are struggling in their own darkness.
